Midnight Bahrain 10's
05/09/10
This year’s “Bahrain Midnight 10s” invite saw fewer participants due to a back log of fixtures by other clubs in the region being played on the same weekend. Never the less both days of the competition saw some tough and spirited performances from most if not all including the “Gulf Barbarians” which was made up of players from the all the participating teams who fancied themselves in the world’s famous Black and White hoops........... even me!
The Quins sent a strong squad of 17 players and..........“The cheerleaders” although the only cheering to be heard was when one of them got another round in, across the causeway. New faces to the famous Blue and White quarters included “Woody” in the front row, “Sergey” in the engine room, “Sooty” at 9 with Dave B all making their debuts. Also present were our only previous midnight tens winner Mike C travelling from Dubai with Riyadh’s regulars Barend G and Taff W also making the journey, Thanks girls and guys.
Highlight of the weekend however must go to little Matthew Woodfield who performed the “Haka” prior to the Khobar Quins Bahrain II fixture. As the smallest on the field stood between 30 fully grown players with some carrying a little more, it must have done something as the Blue and White of the Quins ran out 12-5 winners. Thanks Matthew.
As captain of the day I would like to take this opportunity to thank the following who made this weekend possible. Bahrain RFC in particular Mr Mike Burton and his team along with our main sponsor RISAL, Mr Gav Ames. Also thanks to all our playing and back room staff including Amy who made sure I was strapped up in all the right places, it held me together also to our social members too who were found on the Friday morning on their bar stools you know where?
Thanks everybody.
